Poor access to appropriate information is a constraint to a range of stakeholders including farmers, delivery agents, service providers development agencies, planners and policy makers. Training and information materials are often inadequate, scattered and difficult to access. Extension materials which are available often focus on the technology and do not assist either delivery agents or their clients to consider whether particular practices are appropriate for their own circumstances defined by client objectives, management system, resource endowment or even agro-climatic conditions. In some cases, livestock development efforts exhibit poor science in the form of inappropriate choice and promotion of specific technologies. In other cases, such efforts may not have access to appropriately packaged technology information, nor to effective methodologies for transfer and innovation of technology.

The objective of the project is to produce a toolbox framework. The framework will contain a number of tools but will also be expandable allowing continuing addition of further tools as and when they are developed or submitted by others. Linkages with an on-going FAO/ILRI project, which includes development and management of a dairy information network, will ensure that there will be continued support for further development of the toolbox.
