Draft Animal Power

Brief overview of the Draft Animal Power toolbox

The Draft Animal Power toolbox is primarily written for frontline extension personnel working in animal traction development. The package, however is designed to cater for every level of draught animal power (DAP) user, supporter, promoter, developer and researcher. It also has subject-specific downloadable tools for use by farmers and transport service providers.

The DAP Toolbox is designed to enhance and support draught animal power utilization and development. The toolbox is developed to help enhance knowledge, scope and efficiency of utilization of DAP for crop and livestock productivity and general agribusiness in order to improve rural livelihoods, and alleviate poverty. A level of capacity for dynamism in DAP knowledge or development is incorporated in selected topical issues.

The toolbox organization follows a road-map and systems approach, in form of conceptual map, which enable users to select a subject or topic of interest, whilst at the same time being made aware of related issues. The tools as well as language are simplified for direct relevance and understanding to practitioners, be they farmers, transport service, providers, animal welfare enthusiasts, agro-pastoralists, conservation agriculturalists, etc.
